Looking at the Velatura Diver you see familiar features, such as the 12 hour chronograph and rotating bezel. Seiko has added some friendly legibility accents such as the different colors on the dial. The case is a combination of steel, carbon fiber, and urethane. The sum of the parts is a handsome looking, if not avant garde dive watch that appears instantly capable.

Marcello C watches have a limited although existing distribution in the US. There are now at least 2 authorized dealers, and Marcello C watches show up on eBay from time-to-time. If you want a great-looking, well-built classic-looking divers watch, you really cannot go wrong with the Marcello C Nettuno 3, or any other Marcello C watch for that matter. I owe Marcello C a lot because as I said earlier, it was the brand that got me into nice watches in the first place.
The trend today is for watches to grow ever bigger. In an age of miniaturization, this may not make sense, but remember it is style, not technology that we are talking about. Because watches are meant to be seen, more and more new watches are showing up in larger dimensions. Standard sized watches of the past (say 38mm) for a men's watch is now considered almost petite. And finding a 36mm or smaller men's watch is almost unseen. Invicta now takes watches in the more than 50mm dimensions. Definitely noticeable.
It was not until I was able to remove the plastic wrap that I began to see what this watch could do. The entire case pulls open to reveal a view of the movement. A complex flying tourbillon with a 21 power reserve due to the five barrels. The tourbillon movement is placed in a vertical position near a small porthole on the side of the case, for constant viewing. Aside from viewing the columns of gears inside the case, you have a view of a dedicated power reserve indicator, which is a necessary element when you only need to wind the watch once or twice a month.
Many claim that the Liden Werdelin Land Instrument is ahead of it's time, but I claim that if it "can be done," then do it. Linde Werdelin has done more than repackage what other computerized watch makers such as Suunto have done in a nicer and more luxurious package. The Land Instrument is actually a combination of senors and computational output. Among other things, the device has an internal compass, thermometer, altimeter, barometer, and hearth rate monitor. The idea is to measure body conditions as well as climate conditions. The Land Instrument updates readings every couple of seconds, and the internal computer predicts upcoming events such as frost bite, avalanches, rain, storms, and other important information. This preventative data, along with information on rates of climbing ascent and descent make for a dynamic and highly useful device.

German watches enjoy a lot of appeal to many watch enthusiasts due to their quality and relatively high value for the price. No one can sum up the entirety of German watches in one bold statement, but overall, German watches are more dedicated toward usability and performance than the prestige that most Swiss watches go for.
In my opinion, the watch at that time was not done justice. It was perhaps the cost combined with the limited function that turned people off to it, and it was marketed almost as a futuristic piece, rather than one of the past. The complexity of the watch allowed for limited production, though visually it was intriguing to watch operated (a fact not easily communicated by mere pictures). Part of this had to do with the fact that it was a vertically set movement rather than the more traditional horizontal approach. Use of a series of barrels allows for the movement to operate, and the time to be indicated. The tourbillon was also of course placed in an unorthodox vertical placement. Today the Concord C1 tourbillon is another watch that uses a vertical placement for its tourbillon balance wheel.
The Temption CGK203 is a rare watch. All Temption watches are for that matter. I read that only 1100 CGK203 were ever made, very few of those made it to the US I assume. I was told that by the person I purchased the watch from (on eBay), that it was originally purchased from the president of Temption at Basel World in Switzerland. Luckily it came with the original box and all the papers. I am proud to own it, even if no one has ever heard of the brand. When it comes down to it, each watch I own should make me smile when I look at it, not sit on my wrist to impress anyone else.

I feel the need to talk about this event, even though I attended it in June (of 2007). I read WatchTime magazine and learned about a watch dinner (Inside Basel World) that was to be a recap of the events and news of Basel World 2007. For those of you who don't know, Basel World is the big watch trade show of the year held in Switzerland. The opportunity to attend an event like this in San Francisco was too appealing. with dinner and a "goody bag?" Yea, I could not resist. It was being held about a month before I took the bar exam, at which point I would have done just about anything to get my mind off studying.
But the "over" label does not stop there, and seeing it in the watch world truly confounds me. You have over sized watches, with oversized hands, and over sized dials. Yet no one ever seems to talk about over priced ones. None of these things are over sized! If it is was over sized, it would not fit. Over sized hands would look defeating as they hit each other and not revolve around a dial. Over sized watches would slip right off your hand. The rest of them that fit and function just fine? Not over sized.
Streamerica watches are rare and sell quickly. This is no mystery given their very unique yet handsome design. To me, it brings back images of a different America. One that felt larger, more productive, and certainly one that designed more attractive products. In an era of form over function, it is nice to know that some things recall that functional looks can be endearing, and endlessly thought provoking.
Being 25 and into watches does not always go together. Watches are inherently very expensive, and the cost of admittance into the hobby can be overwhelming. It is a hobby and passion of appreciation and style. You have to appreciate the beautiful, recognize the handsome, and critique the flawed. Few of us are hands on in anyway. Meaning we do not fix or modify watches, not do we really understand the inner workings for the most part.

The design itself continues to be refined, and here reaches a new level of legibility. The GMT hand is well-noticeable, but diminutive enough not to overshadow the main elements of the watch. This is one of the first times I have seen such a well done, yet readable GMT complication. Of course, as in all Ball watches, Tritium gas tube radiate brightly at night for 25 years. The tubes contain a safe radioactive compound that produces a glow without the need of light absorption. Inside the face is a rotating bezel operated by an external crown. This allows for easy minor adjustments in any condition. From a feature standpoint, the Ball Engineer Master II Diver GMT is impressive alone.
I've written about Sinn watches before, and in particular, their commitment to innovative engineering. Now it looks like they have outdone themselves once again with a new dive chronograph. Meet the Sinn U1000, a mechanical watch waterproof to 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), and available in either steel or PVD black.
See the auction page on eBay for more details. Price is great, at ,600-,700. Retail goes for about a thousands dollars more than that. It comes in the really nice stained black wooden box that Temption is also known for. I've never been let down by Temption watches, especially from a style perspective. The goal of these watches is to excel in function, and they do so admirably. You have to agree that this is a nice looking, minimalist inspired, showy watch. A nice, and as you can tell here, non-paradoxical dichotomy.
Upon looking at these factors, you can determine whether you feel comfortable working with this seller (or buyer). Give people the benefit of the doubt and ask questions when necessary, but remember that some sellers are very busy. If they have lots of good feedback, regularly sell when you are interested in buying, then pardon a sometimes slow response. You always have the currency of feedback on your side.
